Lesser Known Attractions
I've always found the lesser known attractions to be among the best. There are well known and heavily visited major attractions all around the region. They're great and should be on anyone's list of places to ride to, but so should those places that never get much attention. Like the "Thumb" area of Michigan. There are several wonderful places here to visit, both along the coast and inland. I took a quick two-day ride through this week just because it's been a couple years since I visited the area (and we're being blessed with beautiful summer-like weather that must be taken advantage of!)
There is some of the best ship watching in the world in Port Huron along the St. Clair River, where ships are impressively close as they fight against, or use the powerful current of the river on their upbound or downbound voyages. And there are attractions all the way up to the tip of the Thumb; with several at the northern end. Places like Point aux Barques Lighthouse, Grindstone City, Huron City 1800s Museum Village, and Port Austin itself. All connected by a scenic road with light traffic.
And this scenario can be repeated hundreds of times and places in America's Heartland.
