The Journey Resumes
In the writing business I have often referred to myself as a walk-on player. I'm not a professional journalist or degreed in literature or English or other disciplines that writers often use in their craft. (My education is in the natural sciences bolstered with a love of history, and what writing skills I might have were honed over twenty years when I was responsible for lengthy reports that required a great deal of research.)
Despite my lack of credentials I've written eight books over the last fifteen years, six on the topic of motorcycle tourism and two history-based tomes. And what's most remarkable is that sales of the books have actually done quite well and feedback has been 90% positive. I've sold the books at a wide variety of events ranging from library talk shows to appearances at motorcycle dealers and lots of swap meets and similar events. I've shared and heard stories from thousands of brother and sister bikers; it's been an amazing ride! I also sold from a web site that I ran from 2008 - 2017. As sales tapered off I cancelled that web site and thought I was out of the book selling business.
But two new books (Ride America's Heartland published in 2019 and Not For God and Country published in 2021) and a small supply of earlier books on hand made me decide to get actively involved in book sales and appearances at events again. Thus a new web site, a new twitter account, and future appearances (once this COVID matter is behind us) at various events and venues to talk to riders and share stories of two-wheeled adventures again.
